KENOSHA, Wis.—The talents of the award-winning Theatre Arts students at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside are on display Thursday through Saturday Jan. 28-30 during the Drama Club’s one-act play festival. Titled “Delights in Dementia,” this series of five productions begins each night at 7:30 p.m. in Wyllie Hall in the space previously occupied by the campus bookstore.
Restricting themselves solely to student-generated sets and props and working from scripts written or adapted by its members, the Drama Club worked throughout the fall 2009 semester to sharpen this presentation.
“The Drama Club has been meticulously preparing this production for several months,” said DC member Chad Bay. “All of the design elements, including the set, costumes, props, and so forth were overseen and developed by students with one faculty member serving as our ‘go-to’ person.”
Bay said the featured plays are “Oedipus” which was adapted and directed by Parkside Theatre veteran Dylan Roberts, “Ballerinas” and “Babel of Circular Labyrinths” both of which were written by Don Nigro and directed by Felicia Dominguez, Terrence McNally’s “Sweet Eros” with direction by Tracy Hoida, and “‘Dentity Crisis,” directed by Mark Baumgartner from a script by Christopher Durang.
Admission to the UW-Parkside Drama Club presentation “Delights in Dementia” is just $5. Please note: these plays contain adult language, situations, and themes.
In addition to more than one hundred awards received during regional and national college theatre competitions, the UW-Parkside Theatre Arts Department won the UW System Board of Regents 2009 Teaching Excellence Award. For more information about the department, call 262-595-2457.
